Amazon Braket Learning Plan and Digital Badge (AWS Skill Builder)

★★★★★ 4.5/5 provider rating 2.5 hours (2 courses) By AWS Quantum Technologies team

Amazon Web Services offers a free learning plan on AWS Skill Builder covering quantum computing with Amazon Braket. The plan includes two on-demand courses and a digital badge assessment, all available at no cost. This is the official path for developers, researchers, and educators who want to run quantum programs on real hardware through AWS.

What you’ll learn

The learning plan consists of two courses:

Amazon Braket Getting Started (60 minutes) covers the fundamentals: the Braket service architecture, supported quantum hardware providers (IonQ, Rigetti, Oxford Quantum Circuits, and others), the local simulator for free experimentation, and how to write and submit quantum tasks from Python notebooks.

Quantum Application Development with Amazon Braket (90 minutes) goes deeper into production development topics: running quantum tasks at scale, hybrid quantum-classical algorithms using Braket Hybrid Jobs, Braket Pulse for pulse-level hardware control, and working with the Braket Algorithm Library of reference implementations.

Both courses include hands-on tutorials using Jupyter notebooks. The free tier of AWS provides one hour of on-demand simulator time per month, so most tutorial exercises can be completed without incurring charges.

Digital badge

After completing both courses, learners can take the Amazon Braket Knowledge Badge Assessment. Scoring at least 80% on the 50-question assessment earns a shareable AWS digital badge. The assessment covers Braket service features, quantum hardware concepts, and application development patterns.

Who is this for?

  • Developers and engineers who want to run quantum programs on real quantum hardware
  • Researchers who need a practical introduction to cloud quantum computing services
  • Students exploring career paths in quantum software development
  • AWS practitioners who want to add quantum computing to their skillset

Prerequisites

Basic Python programming is required for the hands-on portions. An AWS account is needed to complete the tutorials (the free tier is sufficient for most exercises). No prior quantum computing experience is required for the first course, though some familiarity with quantum circuits will make the second course more approachable.

Why take this course?

Amazon Braket provides access to some of the most capable quantum hardware available today, including gate-based superconducting processors and trapped-ion systems. Learning to use Braket through the official AWS learning path ensures you understand the platform’s full feature set, including capabilities like Hybrid Jobs that go beyond basic circuit submission.

The digital badge provides verifiable evidence of AWS quantum computing skills, which is increasingly relevant as organizations begin building quantum-aware technical teams. The total time investment of 2.5 hours makes this a practical addition to any quantum computing self-study plan.
